Viruses spread within minutes, so keeping your
antivirus software and performing a virus scan often is essential. If you are
connected all the time, set your virus program to automatically run
daily at a time when you are not using the computer (e.g. run at 2:00 a.m.
while you're sleeping). If you are on dialup, plan to check
for latest definitions and run a scan before you check your
email or start surfing, especially if you have been on vacation
for a while.

Do
An Incremental Backup
If you are working on an important project,
make a backup copy of your working files
on a daily basis. It's a lot easier to back those
important files up as part of a daily routine than to re-create them in the event of a loss.

Run CleanUp!
A system clogged with unnecessary
files runs more slowly, and the mess makes important things
harder to find. Deleting obsolete and temporary files opens up
space for today’s important work. And, the fewer unnecessary
files you have on your computer, the safer you are from threats
like online identity theft. To cut through the clutter, this handy tool
takes care of cleaning your files for you. If you do a
lot of surfing, or sometimes even a little, you need to get rid of
the temporary files created and cookies that you don't need.
It only takes a few minutes at the end of each day to perform
this little task. Hint:
Create a shortcut on your desktop to remind you to "cleanup"
regularly.

File Email Messages
Keeping your inbox orderly on a daily basis will make your life a
lot easier. Move or delete any unnecessary messages. If
you need to follow-up on a message, most mail programs have some
sort of flagging process to mark those messages; otherwise,
create a "Followup" folder and store those message in that
folder. Some mail programs will allow archiving of old email
entries.

Reboot
When Programs Crash
Failed applications can cause other programs to falter. Restart
your system after every crash or program hang-up to clear it out.
This clears your memory cache and will allow your other programs
to operate more efficiently also.
